Expert guides and tips

What does tiling cost in 2026?

All guide prices in one place: labour per m², the complete bathroom and standalone jobs — plus the 5 factors that drive the price.

Frequently asked questions

What does a tiler cost per m²?

Labour averages € 25 to € 60 per m². Laying floor tiles straight costs € 25 to € 45 per m²; wall tiling € 30 to € 60 per m². Tile size, pattern (herringbone, mosaic) and the state of the surface decide where you land in the band. Tiles themselves come on top, unless agreed otherwise.

What does tiling a complete bathroom cost?

For floor and walls together you pay € 2,000 to € 6,000, including tiles. Large formats and patterns sit at the top of that band. Expect several working days: drying times of adhesive and grout partly set the schedule, and tiling comes after plumbing and electrical work and before the sanitary fittings are mounted.

Can new tiles be laid over old ones?

Sometimes. If the old tiles are solidly and evenly fixed, tile-over-tile is possible — saving demolition and disposal costs. But the floor or wall gets thicker (mind doors and thresholds) and loose or hollow tiles make the method unreliable. A tiler assesses this on site; ask about it explicitly in the quote.

Does my floor need levelling first?

Tiles need a level, dry and sound surface. If the floor is not level, it is levelled first — expect € 10 to € 20 per m² extra. With large-format tiles especially, flatness is critical. A good quote itemises the preparation separately, so you compare quotes fairly.

Are large (XL) tiles more expensive to lay?

Yes. Large-format and XL tiles need an extra-level surface, special tools and often two people to lift and set. Patterns such as herringbone and mosaic also take clearly more labour time than straight work. That is why labour runs from € 25 per m² for standard work up towards € 60 per m² for format and pattern work.

Do I buy the tiles myself or through the tiler?

Both work. Buying yourself, order about 10% extra for cutting and breakage loss — the common rule of thumb in the trade. Through the tiler you often benefit from trade discounts and you know adhesive, grout and tile match. Agree upfront who orders and who is responsible for breakage or back-orders.

Can tiles be laid over underfloor heating?

Yes — tiles are actually the ideal floor over underfloor heating, because they conduct heat well. The tiler uses flexible adhesive and keeps expansion joints, and the heating must have run through a warm-up protocol before tiling. Always mention underfloor heating in your request.

Do you also work for businesses and HOAs?

Yes. For HOAs, landlords, hospitality and commercial buildings there is project work per m² (around € 25-50 labour): entrances, stairwells, series of bathrooms or a retail or hospitality floor. Choose 'Business and HOA' in the request; you will receive a tailored quote.

Is a request really free and without obligation?

Yes. Submitting a request costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Up to 3 tilers respond and you decide who to talk to — or no one, which is fine too. Prices and payment are arranged directly with the professional.

How fast will I get a response?

Tilers in your region respond as soon as possible with a price indication. In spring and summer, when outdoor work runs too, it can take slightly longer — requesting well ahead gives you the best pick of schedules.

Are the professionals vetted?

Yes. We verify Chamber of Commerce registration and business liability insurance before a company receives requests. Companies with recurring complaints are removed from the platform.

What happens to my data?
